Elijah Mojado is a passionate curler from Winnipeg who got his start in 2021, though he showed an interest in the sport even earlier than that.
“I used to roll balls in my basement and think it was curling.”
During the COVID-19 lockdown, he spent a lot of time watching curling. After enough spectating, he thought, ‘that’s cool’, and decided to give it a try.
He knows he has challenges ahead of him.
“Playing lead or second, you’ve got to set the team up, so when you can’t get those set-up shots, it kinda sucks.”
Elijah has had the pleasure of playing abroad multiple times over his career so far, and he’s noticed a few differences.
“The style of play. Here we play in the house, very open. Some people from other countries like to play a bunch of guards, or pile up the centre.”
Despite this difference in playing, when asked whether he prefers playing in Canada or abroad, he answered confidently.
“The travel is fun when you get to go abroad.” “My favourite place I’ve gone, I think, is Seattle.”
After all this travel, we wondered if he ever thought he’d be curling in Thompson, Manitoba?
He answered with a simple, “no.”
He’s looking forward to watching archery here at the Games, to get a change of pace.
As for what’s next, more curling, of course!.
“Curling has given me so many opportunities, and I’m really excited to continue it!”
