Get ready, Games fans! In just a few months, the energy, excitement, and talent of our province's best young athletes will land in Thompson for the 2026 Manitoba Games powered by Manitoba Hydro.

If you'll be travelling to watch the competition, you might be wondering, "What is there to do in Thompson in March?" Here are some of the locals' favourites:

1. All About Wolves

Thompson is famous for its connection to the timber wolf, and you'll see tributes to them everywhere. Make sure to check out the giant Wolf Mural, a stunning, 10-storey reproduction of a Robert Bateman painting. It’s one of the city's most iconic landmarks.

2. Northern Lights

As a city located at the 55th parallel, Thompson is a prime location for viewing the Northern Lights. March, with its long and dark nights, is one of the best times of year to see them. Just find a spot away from the city lights (try heading a bit south on Highway 6 towards Paint Lake), bundle up, and look to the sky for a memory you won’t soon forget.

3. Waterfalls in the Winter

Pisew Falls Provincial Park is a short drive south of town, where the water runs all year long. You can take a walk on the boardwalk to a viewing platform and see the falls in all their flowing and frozen glory.

4. Millennium Trail

This 15-kilometre hiking and biking trail loops around the city and passes through the Boreal Forest. It's a perfect place for a walk in the snow, and you can appreciate the beauty of the forest and get a beautiful river view without leaving the city.

5. The Thompson Community is the Real MVP

The nickname "Hub of the North" isn't just about geography; it's about being a gathering place for all of northern Manitoba and its visitors. When you need a break from the Games, eat at the Ma-Mow-We-Tak Friendship Centre or Chili Chat. Check out The Club Simulators & Lounge for a meal and try their indoor golf simulator. Or, if you want to stay immersed in between games, the concessions at the Thompson Regional Community Centre (TRCC) can be your go-to.

Mystery Mountain - Catch the action of alpine skiing while also taking advantage of the snow! The hill is a 15-minute drive outside of Thompson and has over 15 runs so you can try skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing!
