North - Brock Andres - Hockey
Brock is 12 years old and is representing the Host Community of Thompson, Manitoba. His sport is hockey, a game he has been playing for the last six to seven years. He started playing hockey because all his friends were doing it. His favourite thing about hockey is being with his friends and making new friends. He says it's pretty awesome to be a flag bearer for Manitoba North and he's super excited about it. He's looking forward to getting a few wins and making new friends. He would like for his grandparents, parents and uncles to be here to cheer him on as it would be nice to have this experience with them. He credits his coach and his dad for helping him get to the Manitoba Winter Games. His favorite athlete is Cale Makar.
Winnipeg Gold - Connor Kent - Curling
Connor is 14 years old and hails from Oakbank, Manitoba. His sport is curling and his favorite part of the game is the strategy. He has been involved incurling for 6 years and his grandparents got him started in the sport. He is exited to be the flag bearer for the Manitoba Gold. He is looking forward to playing in the gold medal match. He wishes his mom and his dad could be at the Games to watch him compete. His favorite athlete is Bo Bichette. So far the most fun part of the Games has been the experience and the atmosphere.
South - Brooklyn Wiebe - Curling
Brooklyn is from from Steinbach, Manitoba and her sport is curling. She has been involved in curling for the last 4 years and it was her grandfather who introduced her to the sport. Her favourite part of the game is throwing heavyweights and using strategy. Being the flag bearer is nerve racking but it will be fun. She is excited to meet all the teams. Her grandfather is here with her and is also her coach. She wishes her parents, siblings and her best friend could be here to cheer her on. Her favorite athlete is Kerri Einarson. Brooklyn is a leap year baby but since this year is not a leap year she is celebrating her birthday on the day of the Opening Ceremonies.
Winnipeg Blue - Comrie Bell
Comrie is 12 years old from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She has been playing ringette for about six years. She started out playing hockey but found that in ringette she could play with girls and it was more fun. Her favourite thing about playing ringette is that she gets to spend time with her friends. The best part of being a flag bearer is that she gets to lead everybody. She is looking forward to winning some games and spending time with her friends. Comrie credits all of her coaches for getting her to the Manitoba Winter Games. She is enjoying hanging out with her friends and getting to know new people.
West - Natalie Henton - Gymnastics
Natalie represents gymnastics and is 14 years old. She hails from Glenella,Manitoba and has been involved with gymnastics for the last nine or ten years. Her parents started her in gymnastics and she really liked it so she started in the competitive stream. She wasn't expecting to the be the flag bearer but thinks it's a pretty cool endeavor. She is excited to compete and while her mom is able to be here to cheer her on, her dad had to stay behind with her brothers. She credits Amanda, her coach, for getting her to the Manitoba WinterGames.
East - Bennett Mead -Curling
Bennett is 11 years old from Oakbank, Manitoba. He started curling about eight years ago. His family got him involved in curling and started him in some bonspeils. Curling runs in the family as his uncle is Jon Mead who has competed in and won the Briar. His favorite things about curling are throwing and sweeping. His dad is here as a manager but Bennett thinks it would be pretty cool to have his uncle here as well. Bennett credits his coach for getting himto the Manitoba Winter Games. His favorite athletes are Kevin Koe and Kerri Einarson. His favorite part of the games so far has been the seven and a halfhour bus ride. Bennett would like to thank all the Mantoba Winter Games Volunteers.
