Elizabeth Woodford has been recognized as an exceptional volunteer at the Manitoba Winter Games. Elizabeth is 17 years old and currently a high school student. While she is on spring break, she has chosen to spend most of her time volunteering at the Games.

Although Elizabeth will receive school credit for volunteering, that wasn’t her main reason for signing up. She has committed to volunteering every day and is covering multiple shifts throughout the day.

Elizabeth has been working in the roles of Access Control and Runner. In Access Control, she ensures that people are in the areas where they are permitted and that restricted sections remain secure. As a Runner, she assists wherever needed and helps address situations as they arise.

Her favorite part of volunteering is simply helping people. She enjoys opening doors and assisting others, and she noted that the coaches have been very kind and the athletes extremely respectful.

Elizabeth has lived in Thompson for about half of her life and has been happy to share recommendations and directions to local restaurants with visitors.

One example of Elizabeth going above and beyond occurred when she tracked down a fan for a group of athletes who were in a very warm room. When she brought it to them, the athletes were thrilled and told Elizabeth she was amazing. Their excitement made the experience especially rewarding for her.

During the interview, Elizabeth shared jokes, and it was clear she was genuinely enjoying her volunteer experience. It’s easy to see why athletes and coaches feel comfortable speaking with her, as she has a natural ability to put people at ease.

Elizabeth was surprised to be asked for an interview because she didn’t feel her volunteering was anything extraordinary. That humility speaks volumes about her character and selflessness.

Thank you, Elizabeth, for generously giving your time to support the Manitoba Winter Games.
